Wayne White

Wayne spoke at ICON 6, and he was really great. Funny, and smart, and I really enjoyed hearing about his work and his thoughts about his life so far. He is having a show this Fall at Western Projects on La Cienega. I will be going to that for sure.

ICON and Comic Con 2010

Went to ICON 6 and saw some great speakers, and bought a few books. Then the very next weekend was on the ADG/CDG panel at Comic Con. I also saw some old friends there, and bought a few books, and lost my camera. So no photos to post. That place is so overwhelming, that is it hard to draw there. No one is holding still, unless they are standing in line, and there is such a crowd everywhere it is hard to get a clear view of anything for more than a minute. I put the one little drawing I got up here. Also are the sketches from ICON of Craig Yoe, Todd Oldham (which he signed for me!) and D B Dowd. I have another to post, and a few things from the sketch crawl with Jeff Smith that I will post soon.

Summer Sketching

went to Mexico and did a little sketching. mostly just laid around, ate and drank, swam in pool. this doesn't really look quite like Luis, but still like the drawing. that seagull, a young one, sat on the rail of the balcony the whole time I was painting the pool, hoping food was going to become available. he was eyeing the paints, thinking it was possible they were food.

Some Recent Projects

I did these illustrations for Costume Designer Jacqueline West as representations of her designs for "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button". Some of them were used in a promotional piece about the costumes for the Paramount film. I did them last year, but couldn't show them until after the film was released.

Sketchcrawl at ICON5, NYC

Here are some sketches from the 'Sketchcrawl' event at the Illustration Conference I attended over the 4th of July in NYC. It was fun, and I would like to do more of that here at home. Some of my students were gathering to sketch this Thursday in Long Beach, but I am TEACHING, so I can't join in. But of course, you can just do it on your own too!

Family Photo

This was a sketch done as a bit of "background" for character in an animated film that I worked on during the summer of 2005. This film was shut down indefinitely, but I met and worked with a lot of nice people, and it was a good chance to get my feet wet in the world of animation boards. (Although this is not part of a scene).
